EFPRA 2026: Connections That Matter.

This year’s EFPRA conventions in Tenerife delivered another great opportunity for the Rosedowns rendering team to reconnect, collaborate, and build new relationships across the industry.

A busy few days full of valuable conversations, strengthened partnerships, and fresh opportunities.

Celebrating 20 years of service 👏

We’re proud to recognise Dave Cross, Lead Development Engineer, who has reached an impressive 20 years with RoseDowns.

Dave began his Rosedowns career on the shop floor as a machinist in the bar cell, progressing to section leader and taking on responsibility across multiple machines and departments. Over the years, his hands‑on experience and willingness to help wherever needed have seen him move into Engineering, where he now plays a key role in development.

When asked what’s kept him at RoseDowns for two decades, Dave’s answer says it all — “I didn’t realise the time had passed so quickly.”
As for a typical day?  “a dynamic mix of tasks”

🌱 After an incredible 30 years with RoseDowns, we say a fond farewell to Jeff Pick as he begins his well-earned retirement.

Jeff has been a key part of our engineering team, working as a Commissioning Engineer and travelling across the globe to support our customers. His technical expertise, dedication, and willingness to go the extra mile have made a lasting impact—not just on our projects, but on everyone who has had the pleasure of working with him.

When he’s not been on site, Jeff has been busy at home in his garden, growing fresh produce a passion we’re sure will now take centre stage in his retirement. Thank you, Jeff, for your hard work, loyalty, and the many years of service you’ve given to RoseDowns. We wish you all the very best for the future—enjoy the extra time doing what you love!🌿

Steve Cox, 40 Years of Dedicated Service

🌟This month we recognise an incredible milestone – 40 years of dedicated service from our Colleague Steve Cox.🌟

Steve’s journey with us began in 1986 as one of the work movers, ensuring components were collected from one work centre and delivered to the next with reliability and care. His strong work ethic and willingness to learn quickly stood out. and he was soon encouraged to take on new responsibilities.

From there, Steve moved into fettling the worms, mastering the precision and patience the role demanded. His skills continued to grow as he transitioned to the bar end grinder and the copy miller, taking on each new challenge with the same steady commitment.

His final move brought him to the surface grinder, where he continues to work today. Steve has become a trusted expert in producing a wide range of the parts for the oil seed industry, contributing quality work that our customers rely on every day.

Across four decades, Steve has shown loyalty, adaptability, craftmanship and pride in everything he does. His contribution has shaped our workplace and supported our success in countless ways.

Thank you, Steve, for 40 remarkable years. Your dedication is truly appreciated.

RoseDowns attended HETA’s Apprenticeship Event, proudly showcasing our upcoming apprenticeship opportunities and demonstrating our ongoing commitment to developing the next generation of engineering talent.

RoseDowns are pleased to share the results from a RoseDowns worm and cage assembly.

Installed in a competitors press located in Ukraine, after one full year’s production. Since the installation of RoseDowns assembly, the press has delivered consistent, measurable performance improvements, including:

🔹 2.7% reduction in residual oil content in the meal
🔹 20% reduction in milling defects
🔹 More uniform, stronger meal structure with fewer fines

Alongside the data, we’re also sharing photos illustrating the improved meal structure, key performance benefit ahead of solvent extraction.

All improvements were achieved under normal production conditions, confirming that the performance benefits come directly from the worm and cage assembly design.

The RoseDowns design assembly has proven to be an effective solution for boosting pressing efficiency and improving meal quality for extraction.

🌱 A Legacy of Detail: Chris Ketley Announces His Retirement

Today we celebrate the remarkable career of Chris Ketley, Senior Design Engineer, who retires after an extraordinary 47 years of dedicated service to RoseDowns.

Chris’s influence on our engineering standards is unmatched. Known for his unwavering eye for detail, he brought precision, care, and craftsmanship to every design he touched. His meticulous approach has shaped not only our products but the very culture of engineering excellence within RoseDowns.

His personal motto — “BE THE SEED” — has always reflected his approach: plant ideas, nurture innovation, and inspire others to grow. And that is exactly what he has done. Chris has been the seed of so many breakthroughs, improvements, and successes across nearly five decades.

Green Belt Progressing Smoothly!

We’re thrilled to share that the Green Belt journey is progressing smoothly!

🌟 Starting in Hull, UK, with a strong emphasis on Lean principles and data analysis, we’ve laid a solid foundation for data-driven problem-solving.

Our journey continued in Søborg, Denmark, where the team successfully completed the Improve and Control phases through hands-on training.
It’s been incredibly rewarding to witness our participants develop their skills and apply Lean Six Sigma tools to real-world challenges.

We’re thrilled to announce the completion of the RoseDowns extension! Our brand-new storage facility is now officially in operation.

Pressing Excellence

EFPRA 2022, the European Fat Processors and Renderers Association.

This year’s EFPRA congress in Portugal has been a great success after being postponed for two years. RoseDowns SERPTEC provided information on the latest technical developments, showcasing the SR4.000 rendering press and its innovative design and features.

Alfa Laval to acquire Desmet

We’re pleased to announce that Alfa Laval has signed an agreement to acquire Desmet, part of the Desmet Ballestra Group, a world leader in engineering and supplying processing plants and technologies for edible oils and biofuel sectors. 

Desmet Group consists of Desmet, Stolz and Rosedowns Serptec.

The acquisition will strengthen Alfa Laval’s position in the renewable energy arena and complement its offering within edible oils.

Closing is expected during Q2 2022.

SERPTEC Germany joins Desmet Ballestra

The Germany-based company SERPTEC is joining Desmet Rosedowns, bringing over 30 years of expertise in spare parts for the rendering industry.

Together with the know-how of Rosedowns, the state-of-the-art expertise of SERPTEC is consolidating Desmet Ballestra manufacturing activities and market presence in the field of spare parts and services for screw presses. But most of all, it allows our Group to address the rendering market with the support of a well-established dedicated team.

Founded by Dr. Ernst Wilhelm and Lennard Münch and today managed by the latter, SERPTEC represents a significant contribution to Desmet Ballestra ambition to become a leading screw press seller and service provider for the rendering business. As Lennard states, “our mission being now a part of the Group is fulfilling these goals by forming a team together with Rosedowns, having always the focus on becoming the leading screw press seller and service provider for the rendering business.”

For Giuseppe Di Carpegna, head of Desmet Ballestra Manufacturing division, “the acquisition of Serptec will further strengthen our position in a market where Rosedowns has invested and grown significantly over the past few years. It also provides us with a strategic location to better serve the customers of Central and Northern Europe in both rendering and vegetable oil industries.”

The cooperation between Rosedowns and SERPTEC engineering teams also increases the Group capability to provide innovative and efficient solutions to improve the performances of new and existing presses. As a first result of this newborn synergy between teams, the first issue of a new press for rendering purposes has recently been delivered to a German customer.

Called SR4.000, this screw press is an example of how both Rosedowns and SERPTEC can make the best of their respective knowledges around a common goal: serving the needs of customers with safe and efficient solutions.

Delivery of the first SR4.000

Following the successful launch at EFPRA 2019, Desmet Rosedowns are pleased to announce the delivery of the first SR4.000 specialist rendering press.

The SR4.000 has been developed in partnership with Serptec GmbH and the first press has been delivered in Northern Germany.

The press incorporates many innovative features, designed both for optimum performance and ease of maintenance. The SR4.000 has been designed to include a 360º degree screening area for improved oil yield and many maintenance friendly features, including hydraulic cage opening, a fines brush system and an innovative gearbox with reversible drive. The press can be easily positioned on existing press footprints.
