The Main Press Gearbox

Back to Press Parts Menu

Key to the reliability of the Press, a good Gearbox is essential to the success of a Press Design. It transmits the power of the motor to the Worm Assembly itself.

It must run 24 Hours / Day, 7 days a week  for extended periods. Gearboxes operate best in a cool clean environment, they should be separated as far as possible for the hot dirty environment of the Pressing sections. The Feed End of the Press is the cooler, lower pressure end of the Press and therefore the best choice for the drive position.

A higher efficiency in the Gearbox will mean lower operating temperatures, longer effective oil life and lower operating costs.

Check Points:

What is  the service factor of the Gearbox?

Is external cooling require for the normal Press duty?

Is it designed for the Overhung loads on the Input Shaft?

How is it separated for the Hot and Dirty Pressing Area?

Can the Oil be changed easily and can an internal inspection be made?
